The Castle itself was built in 1811 and is surrounded by 500 acres of parkland and the 1000 acre Lough. As soon as you enter the gate of Lough Cutra you will have the opportunity to experience the best that the countryside has to offer.

The estate is convenient to both Shannon International Airport (31 miles) and the wonderful City of Galway (15 miles). It is convenient to many local facilities - the market town of Gort is only 5 minutes away, the sea and beaches, 2 golf courses, Coole Park, the famous Burren, Aran Islands, Cliffs of Moher, Aillwee Caves and Clarinbridge are all within easy reach.

The Castle boasts a whole range of activities perfect for the outdoor enthusiast including coarse pike fishing on the private 1000 acre lake, equestrian facilities that are second to none (including annual hunter trial events), a historic castle designed by the world renowned architect John Nash, and a number of self catering cottages available for both short term and long term letting.

Lough Cutra Castle is available exclusively by select private groups by appointment only and is also available to film production companies as a location.

An Sean Teach (The Old House) 500 metres from the Atlantic at Galway Bay, amidst an ancient landscape, of tiny stonewalled fields and wild bogs is the thatched cottage known to the generations who lived there as, an sean teach.? the old house.

Seven generations of a local family were born here. It was the small home of a Gaelic speaking family, subsistance farmers and fishermen, knitters, turf cutters who lived in special harmony with the wild nature of their place. Within the thick walls of this happy home, riches were counted in song, music and story. The culture of this community at the western edge of Ireland was one of the few places where traditional Gaelic culture survived. Today, that culture is thriving in what is the greatest period in Ireland's history. The Sean Teach is still standing today with its' white-washed walls shining whiter and it's thatch as tight and cosy as ever before. Today, it is one the finest, restored homes of it kind in existence.

Lovingly and patiently restored to the finest detail with modem conveniences added discreetly, this home is available to rent. It's owners are a family steeped in the rich heritage of this place. Their home will provide you with a vacation you will never forget! This is the ideal romantic getaway or creative nest. It is the perfect base from which to explore and walk the hidden Ireland, often talked of but rarely experienced.
